The Best Baby Shower Gifts For a Modern Baby Shower

!±8± The Best Baby Shower Gifts For a Modern Baby Shower

It's another baby shower and you are trying to find that perfect baby shower gift to give those special expecting parents in your life! You browse the internet and you go to a few Department Stores and everywhere you go you see the same gifts you gave at all the other baby showers you have attended. There are also those of you who may be going to your first baby shower where the grandmother or father of the unborn is the star! Regardless of the type of baby shower you will be attending, you will find the following list of gift ideas helpful:

1. Professional Portrait Studio Package - Surprise and please the mother-to-be with a prepaid sitting at a local Professional Portrait Studio. Who wouldn't want to have pictures of their new baby!

2. Mommy Gift Basket - Instead of focusing on the unborn, pamper the expecting mother and give a gift basket full of items that will help her feel beautiful again. Be creative in selecting the items to put in there, and remember that she will most likely be home from six to eight weeks after the birth of her child. A great gift basket may include champagne, popcorn, a Blockbuster Gift Card, and calming bath wash. The idea here would be for her to take a nice long bath and relax with a movie, champagne and popcorn. You could change or add some items to make it a gift basket for both the parents of the new baby to have a romantic night together. You never know when the last time they may of had one of these due to the pregnancy!

3. Coupons - You could be a real pal and give your loved ones "Get One Free" Cards for babysitting, cooking, washing clothes, etc.

4. Baby Gift Basket - I don't mean the average gift basket that includes lotions. baby oil, bottles, bibs, etc. I'm talking about the items that everyone else at the shower will forget! My favorite baby gift basket idea includes Infant Tylenol/Motrin, Diaper Rash Ointment, Baby Orajel, Thermometer, Infant Gas Relief, Medicine Dispenser, and Hydrocortisone Cream. That way when the baby gets sick for the first time, you will receive massive praise from the expectant mother!

5. A Gift for the older Sibling - This was my favorite gift from my baby shower as it stopped me from having to make a stop on my way home! There was no way I could go home with a truck full of toys for my unborn baby and nothing for my older daughter. It really doesn't have to be anything expensive, just a coloring book, crayons, and a small toy would suffice.

6. Gift Card - Contrary to what mother other people suggest, I would not suggest a gift card to a restaurant for a sit down dinner. Instead, I would get her a gift card to her favorite take out place as she may not want to go out with the new baby.

7. Baby Hamper with Baby Laundry Detergent - You didn't think of this one did you? This is a perfect baby shower gift ideas because it is likely one of those things that some new moms may try to get by without but, wouldn't mind having.

8. Baby Shower Scrap Book - why not have everyone make a page to go in the scrap book at the shower, designate someone to take the pictures and hand her the scrap book at a later date. This would be perfect for an office baby shower, where the scrap book would be handed to her upon her return to work.

9.Diaper Genie with Diapers and Wipes - God Bless the Diaper Genie! Everyone needs one! For those of you who do not know what a diaper genie is, it is basically a trash can for used disposable diapers. However, unlike your ordinary trash can, you insert the dirty diaper, close the lid, and turn a knob that will wrap each dirty diaper up tightly to conceal the odor.

10. Diaper Cake or Wreath - these are creative and very modern baby shower gift ideas that you can make on your own. They could easily serve as both a centerpiece and a gift!

There you have it ...the best baby shower gift ideas! Happy Shopping!

Baby Shower Gift Planning - Ideas & Baby Shower Invitations Cards

!±8± Baby Shower Gift Planning - Ideas & Baby Shower Invitations Cards

Baby shower gifts are a tradition dating back to the early 1900's where friends and family would throw a "shower" similar to how they would for a bridal shower - to "shower" the woman with gifts before her big day (marriage or having a baby). In the early days, the guests made most of the baby shower gifts. Umbrellas were a popular symbol of the event because the baby shower was traditionally an afternoon event and the guests would use the umbrella to stay out of the sun.

Today, if the Mommy-to-Be intends on registering, she should do so about a month before the baby shower. This allows the host to send the registration information along with the baby shower invitations. Modern day baby showers are much different and not just for tea. Baby shower gifts range from practical to outlandish. You should check to see where the Mommy-to-Be is registered for gifts before deciding the type baby shower gift to give. Here's some of the more popular baby shower gifts as well as some creative gifts to give the parents-to-be.

Clothing: Sleepers, receiving blanket, undershirts, diapers. socks and hats. make sure they are easy to change since too many buttons or snaps may be difficult for new parents to take on and off the baby. the Mommy-to-Be will need cute clothes to take the baby home from the hospital

Health & Grooming Products: Baby powder, lotion, baby wipes, desitin, q-tips, hydrogen peroxide (for the umbilical cord), baby safety pins, nail file, scissors, first aid kit, baby soaps and wash cloths, baby thermometer, diaper bag

Feeding: Bibs, bottles, bottle holders, baby formula, breast pump, nipples, bottle brush set, tipper cup, feeding spoon, baby burp towels, baby dishes and bathrobe

In the Bath Products: Towel with cute hood, wash cloths, baby lotion, shampoo, soap, baby brush and bath toys

In the Crib/Bassinet Items: Crib fitted sheets, comforter, bumper pads, mobile, crib trim, waterproof crib pads and blanket to swaddle the infant

Here's some helpful hints for planning your baby shower gifts for the Mommy-to-Be and the Daddy-to-Be:

More Expensive but Practical Gifts: Stroller, bassinet, baby dresser, baby changing table, baby car seat, baby car seat attachment, high chair, baby swing, bouncy seat, sound monitor, video monitor, potty chair, diaper genie (container), safety gate, baby scale, breast pump, rocking chair.

Unique Gifts: Grow chart, gift for siblings, gift certificate for baby pictures, U.S. Saving Bonds for the baby, silver spoon or rattle and baby proofing the house

Baby Shower Coupons: For those that want to give their time for their gift and don't have much money, it is fun to be creative and make baby shower coupons for the parents such as " 2- Hour Babysitting", "Cook for the Mommy and Daddy two meals", etc. The parents to be will really appreciate this baby shower coupon gift book, especially for first time parents who appreciate the help

Gift of Saving a Life: A thoughtful baby shower gift is a gift certificate for a private CPR class for the mommy and daddy to be and a few of their selected family and friends who may become future babysitters

Diapers, Diapers and More Diapers: A great gift that seems to always running out for the Mommy-to-Be is to have everyone bring a few packages of diapers. New mommies never have enough in the house so getting diapers is a perfect baby shower gift

Useful Laundry Basket Idea: Instead of spending the money on a gift bag that is likely to get thrown away, use laundry basket, line it with a baby blanket and put the gift inside and cover with tissue paper or another blanket. Then the basket can be used for the extra laundry that will be added or for toy storage

Floating Ducky: Take a silver mini washtub and fill it with water and float a rubber duck in each one. Tie balloons to one of the handles. It's simple, but sweet. You can also place various baby shower related items next to the washtub, like shampoo, lotion and such

Laundry Basket Goods: Purchase a laundry basket, baby laundry detergent, you're favorite pre-wash, stain remover, wipes to go, and some fabric softener and place in the basket. You can arrange all these small items with tissue paper in the laundry basket, which will serve as you're gift basket

Baby Shower Baby Books: Have each baby shower guest bring a baby book for the new parents. Have each guest pre-write a sentiment or advice to the new parent's on the first page of each book which is a great memento to cherish for the baby growing up and the parents

Baby Plant / Tree: Buy a small tree that can be planted outside of the parents-to-be home. Tie baby items to the branches. The parent's to be can watch the tree and the baby grow at the same time. You can do the same thing with a small indoor plant

Fleece Baby Blanket: A fleece baby blanket is made by taking two pieces of fleece and putting them together, then cutting 3 in slits every 1 inch all the way around the blanket and tie knots to keep the pieces together. Then just roll the blanket up and tie it with a ribbon

Keepsake Box: Use a hatbox and add personal touches to the box by filling it in with onsies, clothes, pacifiers, bottles, wipes, diapers, etc. You can also include a pack of alphabet stickers so I could put the baby's name and birth date, weight and height on the box with the stickers once he/she is born

Father's Day Gifts That Show Appreciation

!±8± Father's Day Gifts That Show Appreciation

You can give a dad only so many ties and lifetime warranty screwdrivers. Want some other ideas? Read on...

If your favorite dad likes lounging around the house on his special day, give him a new pair of britches with matching ones for Junior. Footstep makes a matching 'Happy Dad'/'Happy Kid' set that would make for a great gift for that special father/son or father/daughter duo.

Along the same lines, Footsteps has also come up with a 'Big Kid' / 'Little Kid' matching T-shirts. Guess who the Bid Kid shirts for!

If he's a new daddy, Genius Babies has come out with a funny 'Daddy's Diaper Changing Apron Set', complete with face-mask. With this outfit, he'll be ready for any diaper.

Any dad loves a heartfelt poem by his child. If you're struggling for words, someone else has written it down and framed it too. Genie Graveline's heartfelt poetry is in gift shops around the country and this Father's Day, you can show your appreciation to dad with 'My Father My Hero' or 'A Message for My Father'. Beautifully written, both poems will melt his heart.

Pull out the plaster of paris and make the infamous hand-print plaque. You can also do this on plain paper using finger paint. Make sure to date them and if using paper and paint, these make great framed art pieces for dad to hang in his office next to his graduation certificates and licenses.

Make a coupon booklet, utilizing supplies on hand at home. Offer a free foot massage, car wash, and more. Be creative and use your imagination. Does your dad golf? Offer that you will give him a free lesson. Does he fish? Offer to navigate your way to your favorite fishing hole and let him fish it. The point is to spend time with him. Because he's your dad.

Whatever you find or decide to make, honor your dad just by taking time out of your day to be with him which says 'I love you', without saying anything at all.
